Blogger Brianna Update on Hunter College Searches

Blogger Brianna here with update. Hunter College searched in the fall. Two new hires. Hunter lucky to hire this year. Big budget cuts across CUNY. Faculty not happy. Tuition go up. Students protest they can't pay....Blogger Brianna happy to not pay tuition. Brianna's money goes to other things, like corn on the cob and morning newspaper. Blogger Brianna has a tight, tight budget and would be angry, angry too if Brianna had to pay more tuition.

But Hunter College hire two new teachers. More bang for tuition buck. Public Law search very popular. Many good applicants. Blogger Brianna never seen so many degrees before in Brianna's life....Even Brianna's smart father, who gets all the right answers every night on Wheel of Fortune, admit he was impressed!

Hunter only fly out three candidates. Many tough choices. Compromises made. Some faculty happy and some sad. Brianna knows that's life. The schedule was:

Oct. 21: Amanda Hollis-Brusky (Berkeley)
Oct. 28: Sarah Staszak (Brandeis)
Nov. 4: Emily Zackin (Princeton)

Zackin is good interviewee and wins job. Soon, Blogger Brianna is happy to report Zackin will be at Hunter. Smiling faces on faculty.

But Hunter College not done. No, budget cuts cannot stop this hiring spree. More students at Hunter need more teachers. Blogger Brianna thinks this is what supply and demand means, but Brianna not sure. This blogger never passed econ. Brianna's econ teacher spent all class staring at the floor. His neck tie choked his voice and he had funny accent. Econ too foreign for Blogger Brianna. Hunter brings in three for a IR spot:

Nov. 18: Zachary Shirkey (Columbia PhD, St. John Fisher Assisstant Professor)
Dec. 2: Ka Zeng (UVA PhD, Arkansas Associate Professor)
Dec. 9: Daniel O'Neill (WUSTL)

Shirkey named the winner. Shirkey accepts. Blogger Brianna thinks he has unfortunate name but a fine teacher. This blogger happy with outcome.

  1. Are you *trying* to out yourself? Not sure your colleagues at Hunter will be real happy when they figure out who you are (if they haven't figured out already).
